Hey, sorry for the wait. Thanks for hearing me out.

Of course. [The bayard sword reverts to the familiar U shape he keeps clipped to his belt at all times. He'd decided on a T-shirt and jeans today. He picks up a spare piece of cloth he's been using as a workout towel and wipes the sweat from his face.]

You heard me out when you first got here. Should we sit?

'Course!

[ she's dressed in juicy squad attire. totally appropriate for the occasion. look, it was comfy!

she guesses that he was training. maybe she caught him at a good time; looks like he might need a break. she sits down on a patch of grass and pats the space next to her. ]

So... Memories. [ her expression turns more solemn. ] I think the last thing I told you was that we stopped Kamoshida...but I didn't mention how. [ she takes in a deep breath. ] Soooo...remember that giant lady that popped up behind me in my memory?

Her name's Carmen. She's my Persona, which is basically a physical manifestation of our feelings and our thoughts. As soon as I realized I wasn't going to take anymore of Kamoshida's bullshit, Carmen called out to me.

[ she pauses to let him process all of that. ]

We fight together. Carmen lets me wield her power to stop horrible adults like Kamoshida from continuing to hurt others.

[He takes that in as he drops to the ground with the cloth sling over one shoulder. The shirt pulls right across his muscled chestand makes the definition of his biceps stand out. A faint hint of scaring marks his right arm but the sleeve mostly conceals it. Keith nods at the right places.]

Look I can’t judge you for that or call it weird. I pilot a giant black flying lion. Shiro was his previous pilot. We both had psychic links to Black.

[With that cat out of the bag he spreads his hands apart.] So you wield a manifestation of your thoughts and feelings...sounds like you got in touch of all of yourself and made you whole. Right?

[ ann's noticed the scarring before, but she's never brought it up. she's not one to pry about people's scars, physical or metaphorical, unless it's necessary (see: futaba sakura). but maybe one day he'll bring it up. she'll wait and see. ]

Wait--does that come with being a Paladin? You never told me that part!

[ because...a giant flying lion...what. ]

And yeah. Something like that. I wouldn't say I had all the answers to everything by that point, but once I found my resolve? I couldn't turn back. I knew what I had to do.

And that's how I became a Phantom Thief.

[ there it is. the secret she's been hiding from everyone for so long. some people already knew from akira, but ann just didn't feel like it was right for her to talk about it. but...she can't hide it from keith. he's one of her closest friends here. he deserves to know the truth; she trusts he won't judge her for it. ]

There's another world that exists in our world called the Metaverse. In the Metaverse, Palaces exist--which are literally Palaces that are made based on how the Palace owner sees the world. So...it's connected to their cognition. We target Palace owners to change their hearts.

Our job is to infiltrate the Palace and steal the Palace owner's Treasure. Once we steal that? Our target starts to feel remorse for their actions. That's when they have a change of heart and own up to their crimes in the real world.

[ PHEW. that was a lot. but congratulations, keith. here's your first piece of persona 5 lore. ]

[The words flow in and build a picture. Meta verse. Palace. Treasure. Phantom Thief. Some of it pricks the whisper of what happened in Zizyphus. Pilot error flashes across his mind’s eye. He leans forward, hands on his thighs. Two years ago he’d have run with such a crowd.

He still would if given the right motivations.]

...that has to get the eye of the government crashing down on you. Or chasing your steps. [Ann does it for a reason. Is the government not capable of taking those people down? Probably. Having been in and out of a Home...he knows how people slip through the cracks.]

Trust me, we know they are.

[ everyone's talking about them. everyone. there was no way the government wouldn't hear about it. ]

Wanna know what's funny? They're the ones we're going after.

[ they don't have all the information on people like masayoshi shido just yet, but they're getting there. they'd just gotten through sae's palace, after all. ]

Each one of the Phantom Thieves has been wronged by at least one of those stupid adults who've gone mad with power. The government's been trying to shut us down, but more than that, they've been trying to frame us for mental shutdowns going on--those shutdowns result in death. They're trying to make us look like murderers.

...so someone on the side of the government is creating these shutdowns. [A corrupt government, a secret society designed to oppose them. He draws his mother's knife and studies it. The sigil on the hilt glows the same color as the light running down its blade as it reshapes into a sword.

He lays the sword across his lap.]

If any of them show up here, we'll deal with them. [He runs his fingers along the flat of the blade.]

Powers are still available here but they're limited. ...normally I'm faster than a human. I'm just slightly above them right now. Bayards are faulty. I had to talk to Storyteller to get my sword working right.

That's probably what's going on. And they're using us as their scapegoat because they know we're their biggest threat.

[ which is...kind of amazing, to be honest. it just shows how much they've accomplished, up until this point.

even in the phantom thieves might be over by the time she comes back home.

but she doesn't think about that. instead, she looks in awe at how the blade transforms. but then what he says about dealing with them? that gets ann to smile. she looks up at him with a smirk on her face. ]

I like the way you think! [ hell yes. ] I guess mine is a little different. Personas are usually just things that are used in the Metaverse. And unless there's a Metaverse here...

[ oh, ann. you sweet child. ]

Maybe I'll seriously try to bring out Carmen, one of these days. She's pretty awesome.

We’ll see if you have access to Carmen or can find a way to have access. I’d talk to Storyteller. You should talk to them anyway. They’re good company.

[He needs to talk to them again. But he wants to have information to bring back to them first. And...he has to get used to having Lance and Shiro back. It feels strange. To have people he knows are his people with him. Lance who remembers. Shiro...who doesn’t.]

Maybe one day I can show you the Black Lion. He’s a cool partner.
